Chartered surveyor Stephanie Morris has turned her back on the construction industry to become hostess at a revamped Glasgow nightspot.

Ms Morris, 23, from Newton Mearns, is among 200 people recruited for the city centre venue, which will re-open on Saturday following a multi-million pound refurbishment that has taken eight months to complete.

The Evening Times revealed last month that almost 2000 people had applied for the posts, which range from senior managers to bar staff.

Now large hoardings around the Ingram Street building depict photographs of some of the recruits, including Ms Morris.

She said: “As someone that has studied buildings, I can see the hard work and care that has gone into the refurbishment. The venue is breathtaking – I can hardly wait until we open.

“To think of this as my office space is exciting.”

The 19th century building has served as a private house, the Glasgow And Ship Bank, the Union Bank and the justiciary courts before opening as a club in 1999.

The club, which is owned by Stefan King’s G1 Group, now incorporates a casino. It also has 14 rooms across five floors, including a games room and several bars.

Stuart Patrick, chief executive of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce, said the refurbished venue was “great news for Glasgow”.

He said: “The Corinthian is one of Glasgow’s most iconic structures and the major investment further underlines the city’s ambition.

“The creation of almost 200 jobs is great news for Glasgow.”

Club director Michael Bergson added: “We have been overwhelmed with the positive response we have received from those wishing to join the Corinthian Club team.

“The number of applications took us aback, but the new staff are now undergoing training.”
